Definition Of Seo

By Julia Murtba

A popular definition of "Organic SEO" is the optimization of content on a website to gain better rankings on search engine result pages. When Google, Yahoo, and other such search engines are challenged with displaying relevant search results to the browsers, organic seo, helps them decide that your site is a good choice. This is not to be confused with PPC, or paid search, which enables websites to have high rankings by paying to be placed up above organic listings. They usually are charged based on impressions or the number of times the website link shows up, as well as for conversions, which are known as "click-throughs".

The best way to achieve Organic SEO is by having a website that conforms to all of the rules within the algorithms used by search engines. Real organic content is the most important of all of the facets of organic seo. Fresh, unique, and relevant content is crucial for a great rankings. Practicing good organic SEO means creating a website that boasts quality content and offers real value to the visitor, has frequent updates, and uses rule-abiding processes. If the website follows these guidelines consistently, it will earn great rankings in the organic search results.

As recently as 1-2 years ago, all that was needed to get your website discovered by search engines like Yahoo, Bing, and Google was to fill your content with keywords, even if it was poorly written. Then you would update your content once in awhile and that was that. Even before that, webmasters were able to get away with unsavory tricks like cloaking text, a slick method that involves writing the keywords in a white font in the margins of web pages. These words could not be seen by humans but were indexed by search engines and helped to gain great rankings. Currently, search engines are better able to detect efforts to deceive them and have tightened up processes to prevent these low quality websites from being ranked on the first few pages of results.

A few years ago a radical step was taken by the search engine company Google to protect users from low-quality websites showing up in search results. This update by the search giant forced website designers to review the published content in terms of quality, originality, and duplication of content from other sites, and bush league tactics such as keyword stuffing and text cloaking. The update was a serious blow to many national websites such as link farms, many of which had multiple articles on similar topics and categories published on their websites to provide a platform for online advertising, affiliate links and back-linking to other websites soley for seo purposes.

Since Google's Panda update's implementation, the first few pages of current search results mostly show websites that are using good organic seo practices. This has resulted in SEO professionals and companies scrambling to rewrite their website content, eliminate duplication and take a close look at the quality of their overall message in terms of copy. Because of this, unique organic content production has become a viable business in its own right. So, Organic SEO relies heavily on the use of best practices and following what Google wants closely, as opposed to the many tricks used by webmasters. A website that has quality organic content keeps visitors coming back and attracts links from other sites, which use it as a reference for their own content to enhance the user's experience. If you conform to these guidelines and continually add fresh and relevant content to your website, you should get the great rankings you need.
