I Find A Company To Work With On Our Medical Records To Met "EHR Meaningful Use" Requirements

By Dimitri G. Gislason

Last Fall, the healthcare organization that I've worked at for the last couple years discovered that we were not meeting the federal "EHR meaningful use" standards and that we needed to fix that as soon as possible. As we went over the different requirements, we realized that it was going to be necessary for us to investigate and contract with another, more efficient medical billing company in order for us to meet the guidelines that had been established.

This was not an easy job, because while there are different companies out there that can handle this sort of thing, "EHR meaningful use" is a huge deal and we knew that we would need the very best company available. Since this was of vital importance to my company, they put me in charge of finding a new company to work with, but I was worried because I did not know much about the different options out there in the cold, cruel world.

The very first thing that I did was to create a simple spreadsheet in order to compare the different features found in these companies, but after a while I thought it might be a good idea to see if there were other companies on the Internet. I was surprised to find that there was a very reputable medical billing company that had not been on my original list and even better, they offered some awesome web-based features that I had not really seen anywhere else.

As I learned more and more about this company, the more I understood that this would be a perfect fit for us and I knew that they were the best match for our revenue cycle management needs. I took this notion to the higher ups at my practice, and with their blessing, I went about changing our system over to the new company's system, which was surprisingly simple.

From the moment that the new system was up and going, it was clear to us that it was going to be a good fit for my company because it was a much more efficient system and we were able to look at medical records from anywhere at any time. Along with ease of use in accessing these records, the entire billing process was just so much easier and before long, we were actually seeing an increase in our revenues and felt that it would be a good idea to get a couple more people on our team. And of course, because everything was now done properly and efficiently, we qualified for meaningful use and were able to get the federal help that helped us to expand our services and help even more people.
